Week 6: Light and Scale

Day 26 - Candy In A Bottle

Technique
Phone Photography / Photoshop

Process
Camera Settings:
Aperture - F/1.8
Shutter speed - 1/35 s
ISO - 140
4.6 mm Lens
Image was taken using a close focus on the bottle and taken into Photoshop. I had the white and black shades altered by having the brighter areas brightened and the darker areas darkened. I put a bright purple colour fill on and set the filter to lighten to make the darker areas purple. A few areas that contained other objects were cropped out and patched using the spot heal tool.

Reasoning
Through looking at small scaled objects that I have in my room, I came across this tiny bottle of fake candy and decided to use it as one of my images for this week as it is a small scaled version of candy in a bottle. I planned to have both scale and lighting done with this image so I had a lamp light set behind the bottle and placed it in a space where other objects wouldn't interfere with the image.

Reflection
The image worked rather nicely and was composited using the rule of thirds. The lighting around the glass of the bottle made a nice looking result. I may have raised the brightness of the image a bit too high which has made the background brighter than the focal point.

Day 27 - Ring

Technique
Phone Photography / Photoshop

Process
Camera Settings:
Aperture - F/1.8
Shutter speed - 2 s
ISO - 83
4.6 mm Lens
I turned off all surrounding lights in my room and had a ring sit between my laptop, I used a colour changing light and placed it directly behind a piece of paper to create a nice glow through the narrow space. I set the shutter speed to 2 seconds and the image that came out made a nice purple glow. I used the spot healing brush tool to clean a few things on the laptop's walls as it had a few texts written on it that effected the image.

Reasoning
When I was creating this composition, I wanted to play around with different lighting with objects. I tried a few different light sources but too much light was going through. I used a small light I had and placed it behind the paper to create this illuminating light effect.

Reflection
This was one my most practical set ups where I didn't have to edit the photograph much because of how nicely the outcome was. When I was making the composition, one of the changes that I made was having a ring placed in the centre. I didn't have a ring placed at first and the image lacked a good focal point. I tried a few objects but used a ring in the end which gave it that focal point.
Day 28 - Sandals

Technique
Phone Photography / Photoshop

Process
Camera Settings:
Aperture - F/1.8
Shutter speed - 1/70 s
ISO - 100
4.6 mm Lens
Image was captured by making a small rocky area and having the sandal key chain placed there. I enhanced the image with a photo filter and added a light render where the sides of the image become darker to draw the focus onto the sandal.

Reasoning
I had a mini sandal key chain that I thought would be suitable to make a composition out of. I wanted to make an image that would capture the sandal surrounded by small rocks or sand that would match it's scale as if it was a real sandal at the beach.

Reflection
The sandals matched well with the tiny rocks and with just the overall image. I wanted to get an image of the key chain in the sand but was unable to acquire any at the time. The process was a lot of fun to set up and the editing process clarified the whole composition.

Day 29 - Little Plant

Technique
Phone Photography / Photoshop

Process
Camera Settings:
Aperture - F/1.8
Shutter speed - 1/100 s
ISO - 100
4.6 mm Lens
I had the photograph taken with the focus set on close to blur out the background. I had the contrast raised in Photoshop and did a few colour corrections to make both the dirt and plant more vibrant.

Reasoning
There were a few small looking plants in my backyard that I wanted to take a photograph of. One particular plant had a unique look to it and had a nice surrounding around it. When I focused onto it, I was not only able to capture the small plant, but also the small details of it. The size of the plant can also be seen comparing with the little rocks beside it.

Reflection
Compared to other images in this theme, this image doesn't use tiny objects or small scaled objects. It uses the natural aspect of things having large plants be seen smaller than their usual size. The image also does a fine job switching the focus onto the plant with the focus set on close and increasing the vibrance of the green to make the plant stand out.

Day 30 - Lamborghini

Technique
Phone Photography / Photoshop

Process
Camera Settings:
Aperture - F/1.8
Shutter speed - 1/280 s
ISO - 100
4.6 mm Lens
The image was first cropped and had a few lighting changes to make the posterize effect work properly. It was then set to black and white and posterized to give this cartoon-like design to the image. Lastly I added a colour fill using a difference filter to make turqouise affect only light and the red affect the dark areas.

Reasoning
I first intended to get a picture of this toy car as though it was on the road. The toy car looked too different compared to the rest of the image and didn't look real as it doesn't have a polish like most cars do. I using a few different techniques this time to compose a nice looking final image by lowering the details of the car and the background. Using a posterize also makes the car look real as it is harder to identify using the effect.

Reflection
I am very happy with the outcome of this image. I tried different technique effects this time around and it came out better than I had planned. The image could have been improved and giving it a nice polished look if I removed the left over dust particles on the toy car that has come out as little dots on the image.
